WhatsApp might be able to soon record your preferences with its rumored upcoming feature. According to WaBetInfo, the messaging platform is working on a feature which can store and ‘memorize’ your data in Meta AI. This feature aims to bring you more personalized content by prioritizing your choices.

The upcoming feature is named ‘chat memory.’ As the name suggests this feature will memorize your chat with Meta AI, highlighting your preferences. Let’s have a look at what it means for you.

Understanding ‘chat memory’

After the implementation of Meta AI in WhatsApp, things have become personalized and easy to access. Now we can get quick results for our searches with Meta AI. The upcoming feature of ‘chat memory,’ can take things ahead. With personalisation at its base ‘chat memory’ aims to not only show your preferred choices but also ‘remembers’ them. Yes, you heard it right! Even if you forget your choices, Meta AI will remember your choices.

So, how does this feature work? While having a chat you have with your Meta AI , you might have mentioned some preferences. Meta AI will capture this particular  choice and store it in its memory. For example, you said you prefer ‘vegan food.’ Now, when you search for ‘best food options’ after a few days/years, Meta AI will show you only vegan options. This is because you had mentioned that you prefer vegan food. Basically, Meta AI stores ‘some specific’ data in its memory to show you the options which fits your preferences.

WhatsApp with a ‘memory’ : A boon or bane

With the ‘chat memory’  feature  Meta AI can provide you with  advice, recommendations,  and responses. All these results are catered to match your preferences and lifestyle. In addition to this you will have complete control over what Meta AI remembers. So, you can  update or delete specific information in Meta AI whenever you want.

The concept of ‘memory’ has both advantages and disadvantages. On a brighter side this feature can help you get more personalized content. You just need to ask Meta AI for your search. For example, you are looking for the ‘best memory of 2024,’. You just need to ask Meta AI and it will show you the best  memory you shared in 2024. This data has been stored from the chat where you have mentioned ‘this is my best memory.’ So, things could get easier because you don’t need to spend hours searching the past memories of the whole year.

But on the other hand, when it comes to data safety this feature might pose a threat. If by chance your ‘memorized’ data gets leaked or hacked, you could land in trouble. However, as of now there has been no official announcement of rolling out the feature soon. Let’s wait for it and see what happens when used practically.
