HOW DOES CONSTRUCTIVE FEAR WORK?
Some of you might disagree, it is honestly quite strange to have no fear in life.
However, we are not here to talk merely about fear. We are here to talk about how
the emotion of fear can be used effectively, constructively and its benefits.
Before we delve into the intricacies of constructive fear, let us briefly understand
the state of courage. As we are all aware, courageous people are valorous, brave
and confident. Have you ever wondered where they get their courage from? Is it
something in their food? Maybe it is in their genetics, though that might be true.
But, courage is a skill that each individual can develop over time. You just have to
start with baby steps. Speaking up in your class, taking a stand in a discussion,
communicating your expectations clearly with people in your life.
Constructive fear is something that your brain enables within you to keep you safe
from danger. A fear that is good for you and is in the best interest. Why do we
listen to our parents when they raise their voice or glare at us? It is because of
“constructive fear.” The brain receives the signal that the scenario is about to get
ugly, so before it comes to that, let us amend our ways.
A similar case can be considered when it comes to heat. If you are too close to an
iron, you might feel the heat that will instantly signal the brain to move away.
Courage is not the absence of fear. Courageous people just make it a point to
continue on the track, even if it scares them cause they know the outcome that they
shall reap post that.
Be mindful of the amount of risk involved in the task that you undertake.
Courageous people are making sure that the risk is limited and not
disproportionate. If you develop the skill of mindful courage or constructive fear,
so to say, half the work should be done there and then.
A fearful person is always at unrest surrounded by negative self-talk hindering his
growth in life. Every flavour of life should be in a certain measure, or else the dish
at the end could really get affected. The balance of all flavours together is what
makes life a beautiful, harmonious and tasty ride.
